Solar Subsidy Scheme in Gujarat: An Updated Guide for Homeowners and Businesses (2025)

Gujarat continues to lead India’s renewable energy sector, particularly in solar power adoption. With its abundant sunshine and forward-thinking policies, the state government has enhanced its incentives to encourage more widespread adoption of solar energy. The updated Solar Subsidy Scheme in Gujarat makes solar energy even more accessible to residential homeowners, housing societies, farmers, and businesses.

In this updated guide, we provide detailed insights into Gujarat’s current solar subsidy scheme, outlining the latest benefits, eligibility criteria, subsidy amounts, and the streamlined application process for 2025.

Why Choose Solar Energy in Gujarat?

Gujarat remains one of India’s most promising states for solar energy generation, with several compelling reasons to make the switch:

1. Exceptional Solar Potential

The state enjoys an average solar radiation of 5.5-6.0 kWh/m² per day, ensuring optimal electricity generation from solar panels throughout the year.

2. Significant Cost Savings

Switching to solar energy can reduce electricity expenses by up to 85% for residential consumers and even more for businesses. With improved technology and higher efficiency panels, the payback period has reduced to approximately 3-5 years, making solar power an even more attractive investment.

3. Enhanced Government Subsidies

The Gujarat government, in partnership with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), has increased the financial incentives for residential and agricultural rooftop solar installations in 2025, further lowering the upfront installation costs.

4. Advanced Net Metering Benefits

The enhanced net metering system allows surplus electricity generated by solar panels to be exported back to the grid with improved rates, helping consumers earn higher credits on their electricity bills.

5. Environmental Impact

Solar energy adoption in Gujarat has already prevented thousands of tons of carbon emissions. Each new installation continues to contribute to environmental preservation and sustainability goals.

Residential Rooftop Solar Installations

Under the expanded Surya Gujarat Yojana, residential consumers with grid-connected rooftop solar systems can now avail of the following subsidies directly through the National Portal for Rooftop Solar:

  • From 1kW to 2kW capacity: ₹30,000 per kW
  • For 3kW capacity: ₹30,000 per kW up to 2kW capacity (₹60,000) and an additional ₹18,000, totaling ₹78,000
  • For systems over 3kW capacity: Fixed amount of ₹78,000 (maximum subsidy)

Additionally, a special incentive of ₹5,000 is available for first-time adopters who install systems within six months of application approval.

Special Categories

An additional 10% subsidy is now available for:

Gujarat’s Solar Energy Achievements and Targets

Gujarat has further cemented its position as a solar leader in India:

  • Installed solar capacity has grown to over 9,000 MW by early 2025
  • The state has revised its target to achieve 40 GW of solar energy capacity by 2030
  • Over 250,000 households have adopted rooftop solar systems
  • Gujarat is now home to some of Asia’s largest solar parks, including the expanding Dholera Solar Park (planned 5,000 MW capacity)

What’s Driving the Continued Growth of Solar in Gujarat?

Several factors are accelerating Gujarat’s solar energy adoption:

1. Innovative Financing Options

New financing models, including solar leasing and pay-as-you-save options, have eliminated the need for large upfront investments.

2. Integration with Smart Home Systems

Solar systems now come with smart monitoring and management capabilities, allowing users to optimize energy usage.

3. Community Solar Programs

Neighborhoods can now invest in shared solar installations, making renewable energy accessible even to those with space limitations.
